How can Nora help?

Common questions, troubleshooting, and how to reach me directly.

How does Nora work?

Nora uses Apple's built-in SoundAnalysis technology to listen for important sounds around you. When it detects a sound you've enabled (like a doorbell, smoke alarm, or baby crying), it alerts you with a screen flash, vibration, and notification.

Is my audio recorded?

No. Nora processes audio in real-time on your device and immediately discards it. Nothing is ever recorded, stored, or sent anywhere. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

Does Nora work in the background?

Yes. Nora uses background audio mode to continue listening when the app is minimised. You'll see a "Nora is listening" notification to confirm it's active.

Why isn't Nora detecting a sound?

A few things to check:

  • Make sure the sound toggle is turned on in the app
  • Check that Nora has microphone permission (Settings → Nora → Microphone)
  • Try increasing the sensitivity slider in Nora's settings
  • Make sure the sound source is reasonably close to your phone
  • Check that Quiet Hours isn't active
What sounds can Nora detect?

Nora can detect over 60 sounds across 11 categories including home sounds (doorbells, knocks), safety alarms (smoke, fire, CO), people (baby crying, screaming), pets and wildlife, kitchen appliances, weather, and more.

Can I use Nora with hearing aids?

Yes. Nora is designed to complement hearing aids and cochlear implants, providing visual and haptic alerts for sounds you might miss.
