Privacy policy

Nora is a sound detection and alert app built for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. Your privacy is fundamental to everything we build. This policy explains how Nora handles your data.

01.Audio and microphone access

Nora requires microphone access to detect sounds around you. Here's what you need to know:

• On-device only. All audio processing uses Apple's SoundAnalysis framework, which runs entirely on your iPhone. No audio ever leaves your device.
• Never recorded. Nora analyses sound in real-time and immediately discards the audio data. Nothing is saved, stored, or cached.
• Never transmitted. No audio data is sent to any server, cloud service, or third party. There are no network calls for audio processing.

02.Data stored on your device

Nora stores the following data locally on your device only:

• Alert history. The names of detected sounds, timestamps, and confidence levels. This is stored in your device's local storage (UserDefaults) and is never transmitted.
• Preferences. Your settings — enabled sounds, sensitivity level, quiet hours, flash and vibration preferences. Stored locally via UserDefaults.

You can clear all stored data at any time from Settings within the app.

03.Data collection

Nora collects no personal data whatsoever. Specifically:

• No analytics or tracking
• No advertising identifiers
• No usage data sent to servers
• No account creation required
• No third-party SDKs that collect data

04.Third-party services

Nora does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or data collection services. The only frameworks used are Apple's own on-device frameworks (SoundAnalysis, AVFoundation, UserNotifications).

05.Notifications

Nora uses local notifications to alert you when sounds are detected. These notifications are generated entirely on your device and are not routed through any external service.

06.Children's privacy

Nora does not collect any data from any user, including children. The app is safe and appropriate for users of all ages.

07.Changes to this policy

If we update this privacy policy, we will post the changes on this page and update the "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
